Karla Turcios was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. She completed a BFA in Electronic Media at Carnegie Mellon University, where she received several grants, including the Vira Heinz Endowment, to research the cultural impact of the Internet on Latinos in the US and in Latin America. She directed two student galleries, interned at the Whitney Museum of Art and worked at the Harn Museum of Art. She worked professionally in creating online strategy and multimedia projects for non-profits, the US government, museums and TV networks. Currently she is completing an MFA. Her artwork interprets the visual culture of gentrification and immigration, and relates the impact media and the economy have on us. She has recently exhibited at the Lowe Art Museum in Coral Gables, Spain’s Cultural Center in Miami, and the OAS Art Museum of the Americas in Washington DC.
